Coláiste na Coiribe was the first in a raft of new secondary schools to be built and as such was used by the Department of Education to look at the various systems that can be used successfully in secondary schools to deal with Sound abbreviation, sound Absorption, acoustics, heating systems and solar panels. The end of the project resulted in receiving the highest air tightness result for a secondary school. Not only was the school ground-breaking in performance, it also became the largest all-irish language school when it opened.
